Forest Schools

Forest Schools at Middlethorpe Academy
Ethos:
We believe that children and young people are stimulated
by the outdoors and typically experience, over time, an
increase in their self-belief, confidence, learning
capacity, enthusiasm, communication and problem-solving
skills and emotional well-being. Forest School
experiences are built upon the Middlethorpe Foundations
of BLP, T4L and AfL, as with all other learning
experiences at the academy
Who and where?
Forest Schools at Middlethorpe is planned and led by
Lisa Ballard who has Forest School’s Practitioner L3
qualification. Middlethorpe Copse is located at the
top of the academy field and is the perfect location
for our outdoor learning adventures.
 Experiences and outcomes:
Forest School is predominantly an active learning
programme that helps children to create using the outdoor
environment. It encourages children to be in control of
their own learning and develop interdependence. It enthuses
children and engineers opportunities for then to share their
ideas, create, build, problem solve and gives them a sense
of purpose and achievement. The boundary games and safety rules, give opportunities for
children to be exposed to risks whilst developing an
understanding of how to follow rules and why. These sessions
allow all children regardless of age, gender or ability to
develop and succeed. Children are offered opportunities to
be reflective, discuss their achievements and put improve
on previous learning.
